Britain has rarely allowed filming inside the Foreign Secretary’s office
Line of Events
In the midst of an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler lands an unlikely high-profile job with geographical implications for her marriage and political future. Producers American & The British government allowed them to use real-life settings as filming locations for the series, including the newest American embassy (at Nine Elms), opened in 2018.
Credit for any film or movie production, especially an American one
One location that was not available was Winfield House, the actual residence of the American ambassador. Although accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot of land in London (11 acres) other than Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house on the outskirts of the city for filming throughout the production and cast.
The script is clever and interesting, engaging and well-paced
Character development is very strong and the players are not mere caricatures. Time and again, a character seems one-dimensional at first, but then the story develops and they are actually much more complex than they first appear.
My only complaint is that some of the “love” stories are so clumsy and out of place that they come off as disjointed and jarring
Professional situations that suddenly evolve into the appearance of “I’m a girl, standing in front of a boy.” Someone decided to project a soap opera and that doesn’t improve the outcome.
