I’m looking at it from a different angle. I was an opera singer for many years and I heard the E! Although Angelina Jolie shines in this role, it wasn’t really representative of the real Maria Callas.

It wasn’t Maria

Blame the script and the director’s approach for that. First, I could have used more music instead of having most of it in the background. We see the audience standing and shouting “Bravo” after “Qui la voce.” Except we didn’t hear “Qui la voce.” just a few bars and no coloraturas. Callas had this reserved demeanor during interviews, etc. The interview she gave to John Ardoin, where she asked that the tapes not be played until after she died, was the most heartfelt thing you’ll ever hear in your life.

Just an opinion

She was unhappy, codependent, and never got over her relationship with Onassis. She was a very damaged woman. I really didn’t get much out of this film. There were inaccuracies, but that’s to be expected with a script that requires experiencing life through binoculars. Maria Callas was a great artist and a deeply complicated human being.
