Originally, Sawyer’s character was meant to be a mild-mannered, older urban hustler in a suit from Buffalo, New York. However, when Josh Holloway forgot a line in his audition and subsequently kicked a chair in frustration and swore loudly, the writers liked the edge it gave Sawyer’s character and decided to write Sawyer as a darker, more southern drifter. Sun are married and share the last name “Kwon,” which becomes a major plot point in the final season.

Rewatching the whole thing also made some of the storylines make a lot more sense. This is something I was completely blind to the first time I watched Lost. It’s a great series that paved the way for the beautiful landscape of high quality television series we enjoy today.
