A remake of the Thai film Bad Genius (2017)
A group of seniors at an enterprising high school band together to take down a rigged college admissions system. Early in the film, there is a scene where Lynn calculates the cost of her commute to a private school she was touring.
SEPTA operates in the Philadelphia metropolitan area
The film shows a stack of public transit tickets that are clearly marked with the SEPTA logo, which stands for Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. Thirty minutes later, the film identifies the city where Lynn and her dad live as Seattle.
References Roots (1977) Bad Genius blew me away with its unique take on the heist genre
Instead of the typical bank or casino robbery, this film turns the world of academic exams into a high-stakes game, and the results are simply brilliant. The tension is palpable from start to finish, and every scene feels carefully crafted to keep the viewer on the edge of their seats.
I always like comparing how the same story is told differently from the perspective of different filmmakers
I haven’t seen the Thai film it’s apparently based on, but I like it so much I think I’ll try to find it and watch it.
